La Manifattura tabacchi, fu realizzata (1759-1768) su commissione dello stato Sabaudo, per incrementare la produzione del tabacco. La fabbrica diede lavoro a manodopera prevalentemente femminile, le "Tabacchine". Nel 1875 fu la più grande fabbrica cittadina con 2500 dipendenti. Venne chiusa nel 1996.
Un Programma di Sviluppo Locale prevede il recupero e la riqualificazione di una porzione del complesso edilizio dell'ex Manifattura Tabacchi da tempo dismesse, al fine di trovare opportuna collocazione al Polo di formazione sportiva della Scuola Universitaria Interfacoltà in Scienze Motorie dell’Università di Torino.

Love the old car and the bell! I hope they keep some of these wonderful items when they begin to renovate. Would be a nice historical touch for the new sports facility.

Times changes, production fits in new plans. Tabacco is too expensive, people smoke smuggling cigarettes nowaday, .. . so I hear.
The first picture and the bell one seem so lost in this old fabric!
