I Quartieri militari Juvarriani

The Filippo Juvarra’s “Quartieri militari”, commissioned by Vittorio Amedeo II, were constructed beginning from 1716 in a space of 12 years, near the western city entrance, next to the public square that in the ‘800 will be piazza Statuto.
The barracks of Saint Celso and San Daniel were in the past considered the best beautiful barracks in Europe. It was Juvarra’s intention, to merge functionality and spectacular effect for those who was in coming in the city from France. Now the barraks are surrounding to the buildings and so they lost the fine view. Today it houses the cultural events. In its basements you can find still a 2ww antiaircraft shelters.

I Quartieri Militari di Filippo Juvarra, voluti da Vittorio Amedeo II, furono costruiti a partire dal 1716 nell'arco di 12 anni, in prossimità dell'ingresso occidentale della città, a poca distanza da quella che sarà nel '800 piazza Statuto. Le caserme di San Celso e San Daniele furono in quei tempi considerate le più belle caserme d'Europa. Fu intenzione di Juvarra, fondere funzionalità ed effetto scenografico per coloro che entravano in città provenienti dalla Francia. Ora il complesso è circondato da palazzi ed ha perso il colpo d'occhio, è diventato sede di mostre e eventi culturali. Nei suoi sotterranei sono visibili i rifugi antiaerei della 2a guerra mondiale.
